Annotation to former section 16-290: A common carrier is excused from liability only by an act of God, the public enemy, faulty packaging or inherent vice; to escape liability, it is incumbent upon defendant carrier to prove the shipment delivered in a damaged condition fell within a class as to which the carrier is not an insurer and that no fault of his contributed to the damage. 5 Conn.
