Title Insurance Examinations

Year: 2004Length: 190 wordsOfficial source
“Promoting a healthy economy and strong communities” BULLETIN B 04-09 TO: ALL INSURERS AND PRODUCERS AUTHORIZED TO TRANSACT TITLE INSURANCE BUSINESS IN THE STATE OF ALASKA AND OTHER INTERESTED PARTIES RE: TITLE INSURANCE EXAMINATIONS Over the past several months, the director has received correspondence from members of the title insurance industry regarding trade practices of certain title insurance limited lines producers and joint title plants doing business in Alaska. This correspondence has raised questions about possible violation of rebating laws and possible improper restraint on competition because of affiliated business arrangements. These questions implicate industry wide practices in Anchorage and Mat-Su and, therefore, warrant an industry wide review of title insurance compensation practices and business affiliations in those areas to determine compliance with the insurance code. This bulletin is notice of the division’s intent to conduct examinations of title insurance limited producers in Anchorage and Mat-Su. The director will appoint division investigator, John Holley, as the examiner. The examinations will take place over the next few months and will be initiated by an examination call letter. Dated this 28th day of June, 2004 at Anchorage, Alaska. Linda S. Hall Director
