BULLETIN 19-16 TO: ALL INSURERS TRANSACTING MAJOR MEDICAL INSURANCE IN THE STATE OF ALASKA AND OTHER INTERESTED PARTIES RE: EXTENSION OF 2020 AFFORDABLE CARE ACT OPEN ENROLLMENT The Affordable Care Act open enrollment for 2020 has been extended until 11 p.m. AKST Tuesday December 17th, for consumers enrolling on the exchange according to a news release from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The 2020 Open Enrollment Period began Nov. 1st and should have ended 11 p.m. Sunday December 15th. Some technical issues, however, occurred during the final enrollment hours which prevented consumers from finalizing their plan selection and enrollment. The deadline was extended to give customers an opportunity to come back and enroll for the Jan. 1 coverage. The Alaska Division of Insurance directs insurers offering plans off-exchange to extend enrollment for 2020 individual plans to align with the federally facilitated exchange. This action will prevent confusion among Alaska consumers and ensure consistent treatment of consumers.
