Bell, Commissioner SUBJECT: Increase in Minimum Limits, Effective Dates DATE: June 6, 2008 Please be advised the minimum limits for automobile liability insurance in the state of Alabama have changed pursuant to Alabama Act No. 2008-393. The new minimum limits are $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident for bodily injury or death, and $25,000 for property damage, commonly referred to as 25/50/25. The effective dates of the new minimum limits are as follows: - Policies of new business with an effective date on or after August 30, 2008. - Renewal policies with an effective date on or after November 28, 2008. It is anticipated the delayed effective dates will provide adequate time for insurers and consumers to make any necessary adjustments to be in compliance with the new law.
