Ridling Commissioner of Insurance JLR DATE: October 1, 2015 RE: Vision Care Provisions Passage of Act 2015-481 (SB 270, Regular Session) EFFECTIVE: Immediate The Alabama Legislature recently adopted Ala. Act No. 2015-481 (SB 270, 2015 Regular Session) which applies to most insurers and vision care plans offered in the State of Alabama. This law became effective on June 11, 2015 and addresses contracts between insurers or vision care plans and vision care providers as well as insurer or vision care plan contracts, addendums, and certificates executed, delivered or issued for delivery in the state with the exception of health care service plans organized under Ala. Code 10A-20-6. We encourage you to review your plan form filings and provider contracts to ensure you are in compliance with the terms of this new law. Revisions to any contracts and other forms required to be filed with the Department should be filed for review and approval as soon as possible. JLR/KH/bc
