(a) The sign dimensions prescribed in these regulations shall be standard for application
on public highways. Increases above these standard sizes are desirable where greater
legibility or emphasis is needed.
(b) In expressways and freeways, special designs or large signs are prescribed. In the
enlargement of signs, standard shapes and colors shall be used and standard proportions
shall be retained insofar as practicable. Wherever practicable, the overall dimensions
of the sign plates should be increased to 6-inch increments.
