Application requirements

(a) Each applicant for a Connecticut motor vehicle junkyard license shall file with the
Department of Motor Vehicles, Dealers and Repairer's Division:
(1) An application on a form provided by the Department of Motor Vehicles;
(2) An advertisement from a newspaper for a hearing to be held by the town or city in
which the junkyard is to be located for the purpose of approving such junkyard. The
advertisement shall be an original taken from a newspaper. Copies of the advertisement
are not acceptable;
(3) An examination fee as required by statute;
(4) A certificate of approval of the location endorsed on the application by the local
authorities in the city or town in which the junkyard is located. Local authorities
means the Zoning Commission, or if there is no Zoning Commission in the municipality,
the selectman, the mayor of the city or the warden of the borough;
(5) If requested by the department, a certificate of approval of the location from the
State Department of Transportation; and
(6) A site drawing.
(b) Upon approval of the application by the Department of Motor Vehicles, the applicant
must submit the following:
(1) The statutory license fee;
(2) Fees for any registrations (marker plates) desired;
(3) Proof of financial responsibility; and
(4) A sales tax permit number obtained from the State Tax Department.
