101 INTENT - FOOD SAFETY, SANITATION 101.1 The purpose of this Code is to provide food safety and sanitation requirements for food processing operations. These requirements will safeguard public health by: (a) Ensuring that food products are safe and unadulterated as defined in section 402(a)(3) and (4) of the Federal Food Act and section 3 of An Act Relating to the adulteration of food and drugs in the District of Columbia, approved February 17, 1898 (30 Stat. 248; D.C. Official Code ยง 48-103); (b) Protecting the consuming public from products that have been produced under unsanitary conditions; and (c) Ensuring that shellfish is processed in a safe and sanitary manner SOURCE: Final Rulemaking published at 56 DCR 5245 (July 3, 2009).
