4002. TRAVEL OFFICERS

TRAVEL OFFICERS Agency heads shall designate an employee to serve as the agency’s travel officer. In the absence of such a designation, the agency head shall be the travel officer. Travel officers are responsible for verifying that employee travel and training expenses are reasonable, necessary, consistent with the provisions of this chapter, and in compliance with the policies outlined in § 4001. This includes: Reviewing the travel requests and supporting documents for accuracy and completeness; and Ensuring compliance with applicable rules and regulations. All travel requests and expenses must be approved by the travel officer. The travel officer shall be responsible for: Making determinations under the provisions of this chapter (in consultation, where appropriate, with the agency’s general counsel); Receiving, reviewing, certifying, and processing requests for travel authorizations; Receiving, reviewing, certifying, and processing requests for advances; Receiving, reviewing, certifying, and processing requests for reimbursements of travel expenses; Carrying out other functions specified in this chapter or as assigned by the agency director; and Taking such actions as are necessary to ensure that the travel officer’s agency is in compliance with this chapter.
