General Petroleum Corp. of California
In the Matter of GENERAL PETROLEUM CORPORATION OF CALIFORNIA
and SAILORS UNION OF THE PACIFIC. A. F. L.
Case,No. R-3935
AMENDMENT TO DIRECTION OF ELECTION
August 18, 1914
On July 11, 1942, the National Labor Relations Board issued a
Decision and Direction of Election in the above-entitled proceeding.
In the election directed therein, the Board did not place upon the
ballot the name of National Maritime Union, herein called the N. M.
U., because that • organization had made no showing of membership
in the unit found appropriate.
Thereafter, on August 7, 1942, the
N. M. U. filed a Motion to Modify Previous Order and to Postpone
Election Therein Directed. In its motion the N. M. U. requests the
Board to postpone the election and to modify its Direction of Elec-
tion by ordering elections in the engine and steward departments of
the Company's oil tankers, in addition to the election ordered in the
deck departments.
The Board has considered the motion, and it is
hereby denied.
We find, however, that the N. M. U. has now submitted sufficient
authorization cards to entitle it to a place on the ballot in the elec-
tion directed among unlicensed deck employees.2
,
The Board' accordingly hereby amends the aforesaid Direction of
Election by striking therefrom the words "whether or not they desire
to be represented by Sailors Union of the Pacific, affiliated with Sea-
farers International Union, A. F. of L. for the purposes of collec-
tive bargaining," and substituting therefor the words "whether they
desire to be represented by Sailors Union of the Pacific, affiliated
with Seafarers International Union, A. F. 'of L., or by National
Maritime Union, for the purposes of collective bargaining, or by
neither."
CHAIRMAN MILLIS took no part in the consideration of the above
Amendment to Direction of Election.,,,
142 N. L. R.B 339
2 The Acting Regional Director for the Twenty-first Region reported that in connection
with its motion the N. M. U had submitted 63 authorization cards to hint , and that 6 of
these bore signatures which were names of persons whose names appeared as unlicensed
deck employees on the Company' s pay roll of June 15, 1942, which listed 41 such employees.
