AMENDMENT TO DIRECTION OF ELECTIONS
April 15, 1940
On February 28, 1940, the National Labor Relations Board, herein
called the Board, issued a Decision and Direction of Elections 1 in the
above-entitled proceeding.
The Direction of Elections directed, in
part, that a separate election by secret ballot be conducted as soon as
practicable among all wood pattern makers and model makers, work-
ing on bench or machine (but not shaper hands), metal pattern makers
working on bench or machine, model and pattern checkers, keller
model set-up men, and the apprentices of these classifications (but not
supervisory or salaried employees and those whose work is of a con-
fidential nature) who are in the employ, or on the seniority list, of
General Motors Corporation in each of several plants named in Sched-
ule A attached,to,,,the,Direction, to determine whether such employees
desire to be represented by the Pattern Makers League of North Amer-
ica, affiliated with the A. F. of L., or by International Union, United
Automobile Workers of America, affiliated with the C. I. 0., for the
purposes of collective bargaining, or by neither.
Among the plants
named in Schedule A was Research Laboratories Division, Detroit,
Michigan.
The Board, having been advised that International Union, United
Automobile Workers of America, affiliated with the C. I. 0., does not
desire its name to appear upon the ballot for the election among the

pattern makers at Research Laboratories Division, hereby amends its
Direction of Elections by :
1. Striking from Schedule A of such Direction the words "Research
Laboratories Division, Detroit, Michigan", and
2. Striking the period at the end of paragraph (3) 'of said 'Direc-
tion and substituting a semi-colon therefor, and
3. Adding the following paragraph immediately following para-
graph-:(3;),.ofvsaid Direction:
(4) Among all wood pattern makers and model makers, work-
ing on bench or machine (but not shaper hands), metal pattern
makers working on bench or machine, model and pattern checkers,
keller model set-up men, and the apprentices of these classifica-
tions (but not supervisory or salaried employees and those whose
work is of a confidential nature ), who are in the employ, or on
the seniority list, of the Company in its Research Laboratories
Division, Detroit, Michigan, during the pay period in which
March 1, 1940, falls, including employees who did not work dur-
ing such pay-roll period because they were ill or on vacation, to
determinex,whether, or-not they desire to be represented by the
Pattern Makers League of North', America, affiliated with the
A. F. of L., for the purposes of collective bargaining.
