40.3 - Refunds by Lump Sum Payments (Rev. 77, Issued: 10-28-05, Effective Date: 10-28-05) (42 CFR 417.456(c)) A Medicare cost plan must make refunds to its current and former Medicare enrollees, or to others who have made payments on behalf of enrollees, by lump sum payment for the following: • Incorrectly collected amounts that were not collected as premiums; • Other amounts due; and • All amounts due, if the Medicare cost plan is going out of business.
