50.3.1 - Tracking the Benefit Period (Rev. 1555; Issued: 07-18-08; Effective Date: 01-01-09; Implementation Date: 01- 05-09) SNF days during the sanction period will be used to track breaks in the spell of illness if a beneficiary’s care in the SNF meets the skilled level of care requirements. If the patient is receiving a skilled level of care the benefit period cannot end. Therefore, it will be tracked in CWF.
