10006.1 - Introduction (Rev. 221; Issued: 05-10-24; Effective: 05-10-24; Implemetation:05-10-24) Suspension of payment for all new Medicare admissions is conducted in accordance with §488.840 for HHA or §488.1240 for hospice programs when the provider is not in substantial compliance with the CoPs. The SA should consider recommending this sanction/remedy for deficiencies related to poor patient care outcomes, regardless of whether cited deficiencies pose IJ to patient health and safety. Suspension of payment for new admissions is likely to be the most effective sanction/remedy to influence rapid change to facilitate compliance with the CoPs and may be imposed alone or in combination with other sanctions/remedies.
