Cite as 20 C.F.R. § 221.1 (2026)
This part explains the factors involved in deciding whether the Social Security Administration or the Railroad Retirement Board will pay benefits to a railroad employee, and his or her eligible family members, both before and after the employee's death. The agency that has jurisdiction over the payment of benefits also has jurisdiction of the applicant's Medicare coverage as described in section 7(d) of the Railroad Retirement Act. The Board is responsible for making this decision. [47 FR 7656, Feb. 22, 1982, as amended at 91 FR 51385, Aug. 10, 2026]
