el salvador Sec. 595. With respect to the ongoing political unrest and armed conflict in El Salvador, the Congress hereby— (1) welcomes the negotiating process set in motion on September 13, 1989 in Mexico City by the Government of El Salvador and the leadership of the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front and the expressed willingness of both parties to continue this process; (2) urges the parties to these negotiations to achieve, as quickly as possible— (A) a cessation of hostilities; and (B) an overall political settlement of the ten-year old conflict; and (3) calls upon the Secretary of State to consult frequently with the Congress on the status of the Salvadoran negotiations and on the efforts being undertaken by the President to support these negotiations.
