ASSESSMENT AND REPORT ON UNITED STATES-PAKISTAN MILITARY RELATIONS AND COOPERATION.
SEC. 1231. ASSESSMENT AND REPORT ON UNITED STATES-PAKISTAN MILITARY RELATIONS AND COOPERATION.(a) Assessment Required.—The Secretary of Defense, in consultation with the Secretary of State, shall conduct an assessment of possible alternatives to reimbursements to Pakistan for logistical, military, or other support provided by Pakistan to or in connection with United States military operations, which could encourage the Pakistani military to undertake counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations and achieve the goals and objectives for long-term United States-Pakistan military relations and cooperation.(b) Report.—Not later than 180 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Defense shall submit to 123 STAT. 2531 the appropriate congressional committees a report on the assessment required under subsection (a).(c) Form.—The report required under subsection (b) shall be submitted in unclassified form, but may include a classified annex if necessary.(d) Appropriate Congressional Committees Defined.—In this section, the term “appropriate congressional committees” means—(1) the Committee on Armed Services, the Committee on Foreign Affairs, and the Committee on Appropriations of the House of Representatives; and(2) the Committee on Armed Services, the Committee on Foreign Relations, and the Committee on Appropriations of the Senate.
