SEC. 1042. ADDITIONAL SUBPOENA AUTHORITY FOR THE INSPECTOR GENERAL OF THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE. Section 8 of the Inspector General Act of 1978 (5 U.S.C. App. 8) is amended by adding at the end the following new subsection:“(i)(1) The Inspector General of the Department of Defense is authorized to require by subpoena the attendance and testimony of witnesses as necessary in the performance of functions assigned to the Inspector General by this Act, except that the Inspector 123 STAT. 2456 General shall use procedures other than subpoenas to obtain attendance and testimony from Federal employees.“(2) A subpoena issued under this subsection, in the case of contumacy or refusal to obey, shall be enforceable by order of any appropriate United States district court.“(3) The Inspector General shall notify the Attorney General 7 days before issuing any subpoena under this section.”.
