ENLISTMENT BONUS FOR MEMBERS IN SKILLS DESIGNATED AS CRITICAL

SEC. 612. ENLISTMENT BONUS FOR MEMBERS IN SKILLS DESIGNATED AS CRITICAL (a) Increase in Authorized Bonus and First Installment.—Section 308a(a) of title 37, United States Code, is amended— (1) by striking out “$8,000” in the first sentence and inserting in lieu thereof “$12,000”; and 103 STAT. 1446 (2) by striking out “$5,000” in the second sentence and inserting in lieu thereof “$7,000”. (b) Limitation on Payments.—The total amount of payments made during fiscal year 1990 under section 308a(a) of title 37, United States Code, by the Secretary of the Army may not exceed $66,400,000. (c) Effective Date.—The amendments made by subsection (a) shall apply with respect to an enlistment or extension of an initial period of active duty (in a skill designated as critical) entered into on or after October 1, 1989.
