SEC. 609. SEVERE MARINE DEBRIS EVENT DETERMINATION.(a) In General.—The Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration shall determine whether the March 2011, Tohoku earthquake and subsequent tsunami and the October 2012, hurricane Sandy each caused a severe marine debris event (as that term is defined in section 7(6) of the Marine Debris Act (33 U.S.C. 1956(6)), as amended by this Act).(b) Deadline.—Not later than 30 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Administrator shall provide the determination required under subsection (a) to the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation of the Senate and the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the Committee on Natural Resources of the House of Representatives.
