SEC. 6016. STUDY OF METHODS TO COMPENSATE HOSPICES FOR HIGH-COST CARE. (a) Study.—The Secretary of Health and Human Services shall— (1) conduct a study of high-cost hospice care provided to medicare beneficiaries under the medicare program, and evaluate the ability of hospice programs participating in the medicare program to provide such high-cost care to such patients; and (2) based on such study, develop methods to compensate such programs for providing such high-cost care. (b) Report to Congress.—Not later than April 1, 1991, the Secretary shall submit a report to the Committee on Ways and Means of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Finance of the Senate on the study conducted under subsection (a) and shall include in the report any recommendations developed by the Sec-103 STAT. 2165retary to compensate hospice programs for providing high-cost hospice care to medicare beneficiaries.
