SEC. 6217. INNER-CITY HOSPITAL TRIAGE DEMONSTRATION PROJECT. (a) Establishment.—The Secretary of Health and Human Services shall establish a demonstration project in a public hospital that is located in a large urban area and that has established a triage system, under which the Secretary shall make payments for 3 years to reimburse the hospital for the reasonable costs of operating the system, including costs— (1) to train hospital personnel to operate and participate in the system; and (2) to provide services to patients who might otherwise be denied appropriate and prompt care. (b) Limitations on Payment.—(1) The Secretary may not make payment under the demonstration project established under subsection (a) for costs that the Secretary determines are not reasonable. (2) The amount of payment made under the demonstration project during a single year may not exceed $500,000.
