SEC. 5040. CONCURRENT SSI AND FOOD STAMP APPLICATIONS BY INSTITUTIONALIZED INDIVIDUALS.Section 1631 (42 U.S.C. 1383) is amended— (1) in subsection (m), by striking the second sentence; and (2) by adding at the end the following: “concurrent SSI and food stamp applications by institutionalized individuals “(n) The Secretary and the Secretary of Agriculture shall develop a procedure under which an individual who applies for supple-mental security income benefits under this subsection shall also be permitted to apply at the same time for participation in the food stamp program authorized under the Food Stamp Act of 1977 (7 U.S.C. 2011 et seq.).”.
