SEC. 724. POWERS OF THE COMMISSION. (a) In General.— For the purpose of carrying out this part, the Commission may hold such hearings (subject to the requirements of subsection (b)) and sit and act at such times and places, take such testimony, and receive such evidence as the Commission considers necessary to fulfill the purposes specified in section 722. 101 STAT. 1393 (b) Meetings.— (1) Minimum number of public hearings.— The Commission shall hold a minimum of five public hearings. (2) Open meetings.— Section 552b of title 5 of the United States Code shall apply with respect to the Commission. (3) Calling meetings.— The Commission shall meet at the call of the Chairman or a majority of its members. (c) Delegation of Authority.— When so authorized by the majority of the Commission, any member or agent of the Commission may take any action which the Commission is authorized to take by this section. (d) Information From Federal Agencies.— The Commission may secure directly from any Federal agency information necessary to enable it to carry out this part. Upon request of the Chairman of the Commission, the head of any such Federal agency shall furnish such information to the Commission, to the extent authorized by law; except that the head of any Federal agency to which a request for information is provided pursuant to this subsection may deny access to such information, or make access subject to such terms and conditions as the head of that agency may prescribe, on the basis that the information in question is classified and the Commission does not have adequate procedures to safeguard the information in question, or that the Commission does not have a need to know the classified information. In addition, a Federal agency may not provide the Commission with information that could disclose intelligence sources or methods without first securing the approval of the Director of Central Intelligence. The head of any such Federal agency may provide information on a reimbursable basis.
