Sec. 705. (a) Notwithstanding the provisions of section 75, National Defense Act, as amended, whenever a member of the Army Reserve or Air Force Reserve becomes an officer of the National Guard or Air National Guard of any State, Territory, or District of Columbia in the same grade in which he is appointed as a Reserve officer of the appropriate Armed Force of the United States, he shall, subject 66 Stat. 503 to such physical examination as may be prescribed, be extended Federal recognition in such grade as of the date of his appointment in the National’Guard or Air National Guard and concurrently become a member of the National Guard of the United States or Air National Guard of the United States, as appropriate, and ceases to be a member of the Army Reserve or of the Air Force Reserve. (b) Whenever a member of the. Army Reserve or of the Air Force Reserve is duly enlisted in the National Guard or Air National Guard of any State, Territory, or the District of Columbia, and is a member of a federally recognized unit or organization thereof, in the same grade in which he is a Reserve of the appropriate Armed Force of the United States, he becomes a member of the National Guard of the United States or of the Air National Guard of the United States and ceases to be a member of the Army Reserve or of the Air Force Reserve.
