SEC. 1714. CATEGORICAL ELIGIBILITY FOR RECIPIENTS OF GENERAL ASSISTANCE. Section 5(a) (7 U.S.C. 2014(a)) is amended by— 104 STAT. 3784 (1) by striking “and beginning on the date of the enactment of the Food Security Act of 1985,”; and (2) by inserting after the second sentence the following new sentence: “Except for sections 6, 16(e)(1), and the third sentence of section 3(i), households in which each member receives benefits under a State or local general assistance program that complies with standards established by the Secretary for ensuring that the program is appropriate for categorical treatment shall be eligible to participate in the food stamp program.”.
