AUDIT OF SIMPLIFIED FOOD STAMP APPLICATIONS AT SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION OFFICES.
SEC. 1742. AUDIT OF SIMPLIFIED FOOD STAMP APPLICATIONS AT SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION OFFICES. (a) In General.— The Comptroller General of the United States shall conduct an audit of the programs established under subsections (i) and (j) of section 11 of the Food Stamp Act of 1977 (7 U.S.C. 2020) under which an applicant for or recipient of social security benefits may make or be provided a simple application to participate in the food stamp program at social security offices, including an examination of whether— (1) the programs are operating effectively; and (2) (A) the program for recipients of supplemental security income established under title XVI of the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 1381 et seq.) should be expanded to include all applicants for and recipients of social security benefits; or (B) a joint application is feasible for benefits under the Food Stamp Act of 1977 (7 U.S.C. 2011 et seq.) and supplemental security income benefits. (b) Report.— Not later than December 31, 1991, the Comptroller General shall deliver a report on the results of the study required by this section to the Committee on Agriculture of the House of Representatives, the Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry of the Senate and the Special Committee on Aging of the Senate.
