miscellaneous provisions Sec. 111. Section 604 of the Classification Act of 1949, as amended, is amended to read as follows: “Sec. 604. Employees receiving basic compensation at a rate authorized by law, immediately prior to the effective date of this title, in excess of the appropriate new rate of the grade as determined under paragraphs (1) to (10), inclusive, of section 604 (b) of this Act, as in effect prior to the date of enactment of this amended section, may continue to receive such rate so long as they remain in the same position and grade, but when any such position becomes vacant, the rate of basic compensation of any subsequent appointee shall be fixed in accordance with this Act.”
