unit vacancy—promotion to brigadier general and major general Sec. 318. (a) Officers in the Army Reserve may be promoted to general officer grades of brigadier general and major general to fill vacancies in these grades in Army Reserve units which have attained strengths prescribed by the Secretary. (b) At any time within one year after an officer has been assigned the duties or a general officer of the next higher grade in an Army Reserve unit he shall be evaluated by his superior officer. If he determines that the officer has demonstrated his fitness for that position 68 Stat. 1160be shall submit the officer’s name to the Secretary of the Army for consideration by a selection board for promotion to the next higher grade. (c) In order to be eligible for consideration by a selection board for promotion to general officer grade in the Army Reserve the officer, in addition to meeting the other requirements of this Act, shall have fulfilled such minimum standards as shall be prescribed by the Secretary. (d) The names of the officers who fulfill the requirements of this section and section 306 shall be submitted for consideration for promotion to a selection board appointed and convened at least once annually by the Secretary. This selection board shall recommend the officer deemed best qualified to fill each vacancy. An officer recommended by the board may be immediately promoted to fill the unit vacancy for which considered.
