§ 5583. Regular Marine Corps: from noncommissioned officers Original appointments to the active list of the Marine Corps may be made from meritorious male noncommissioned officers of the Regular Marine Corps who are at least 20 and under 30 years of age. Appointments under this section shall be in the grade of second lieutenant.
