§ 8301. Commissioned officers: promotion to captain, major, or lieutenant colonel; officers with special qualifications (a) In addition to the method prescribed in section 8300 of this title, whenever there are vacancies on the Air Force promotion list in the regular grade of captain, major, or lieutenant colonel, and the Secretary of the Air Force considers that there are or will be too few officers in any of those grades with special qualifications, he may direct a selection board to recommend a prescribed number of officers with those qualifications, for promotion to that grade, under the procedures prescribed in sections 8299 and 8300 of this title.
