National Bureau of Standards Expenses: For expenses necessary in performing the functions authorized by the Act of March 3, 1901, as amended (15 U. S. C. 271–278c), including general administration; operation, maintenance, alteration, and protection of grounds and facilities; and improvement and construction of temporary or special facilities as authorized by69 Stat. 234 section 2 of the Act of July 21, 1950 (15 U. S. C. 286); $7,000,000: Provided, That during the current fiscal year the maximum base rate of compensation for employees appointed pursuant to the Act of July 21, 1950 (15 U. S. C. 285), shall be equivalent to the entrance rate of GS–12. Plant and equipment: For construction of a pilot electronic data processing device to he used in the performance of functions authorized by the Act of March 3, 1901, as amended (15 U. S. C. 271–278c); repair of mechanical facilities; and expenses incurred, as authorized by section 2 of the Act of July 21, 1950 (15 U. S. C. 286), in the construction or improvement of buildings, grounds, and other facilities; and construction of an electronic calibration center at a cost not to exceed $765,000; $995,000, to remain available until expended.
