slum clearance and urban renewal Sec. 106. (a) Section 103 (b) of the Housing Act of 1949, as amended, is hereby amended by striking “$100,000,000, which limit shall be increased by further amounts of $100,000,000 on July 1 in each of the years 1950, 1951, 1952, and 1953, respectively: Provided, That (subject to the total authorization of not to exceed $500,000,000)” and inserting “$500,000,000, which limit shall be increased by further amounts of $200,000,000 on July 1 in each of the years 1955 and 1956, respectively: Provided, That”. (b) Section 106 (e) of said Act, as amended, is hereby amended by striking “$35,000,000” and inserting “$70,000,000”. (c) Section 110 (c) of said Act, as amended, is hereby amended by inserting between the first and second sentences thereof the following sentence: “Where land within the purview of subparagraph (1) (n) or (1) (iii) hereof (whether it be predominantly residential or nonresidential in character) is to be redeveloped for predominantly nonresidential uses, loans and advances under this title may be extended therefor if the governing body of the local public agency determines that such redevelopment for predominantly nonresidential uses is necessary and appropriate to facilitate the proper growth and development of the community in accordance with sound planning standards and local community objectives and to afford maximum opportunity for the redevelopment of the project area by private enterprise: Provided, That loans and outstanding advances to any local public agency pursuant to the authorization of this sentence shall not exceed 2½ per centum of the estimated gross project costs of the projects undertaken under other contracts with such local public agency pursuant to this title.”
