SEC. 309. LONG-TERM AIRPORT CAPACITY NEEDS. (a) Study.— The Secretary shall conduct a study for the purpose of developing an overall airport system plan through the year 2010 which will assure the long-term availability of adequate airport system capacity. (b) Reports.— (1) Preliminary report.— Not later than 1 year after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall transmit to Congress a preliminary report on the status of the plan being developed under subsection (a). (2) Final report.— Not later than January 1, 1990, the Secretary shall transmit to Congress a final report on the results of the study conducted under subsection (a), together with the plan developed under such subsection. (c) Funding.— There shall be available to the Secretary from the Airport and Airway Trust Fund $250,000 per fiscal year for each of fiscal years 1988 and 1989 for carrying out this section. Such funds shall remain available until expended.
