Discharge as cured; restoration to legal status
§ 21–590. Discharge as cured; restoration to legal statusWhen a person adjudged to be of unsound mind in the District of Columbia who is committed to Saint Elizabeths Hospital, or any other institution, recovers his reason, and is discharged from the institution as cured, the Superintendent of Saint Elizabeths Hospital, or the official in charge of the institution where he has been under treatment and has been so discharged, shall immediately file with the clerk of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia his sworn statement that, in his opinion, the person was not of unsound mind at the time of his discharge. The statement is sufficient to authorize the court to order the person restored to his former legal status as a person of sound mind.
