husband’s and widower’s insurance benefits without requirement of wife’s currently insured status Sec. 157. (a) (1) Section 202(c)(1) of the Social Security Act is amended by striking out “a currently insured individual (as defined in section 214(b))” in the matter preceding subparagraph (A) and inserting in lieu thereof “an individual”. (2) Section 202(c)(2) of such Act is amended by striking out “The requirement in paragraph (1) that the individual entitled to old-age or disability insurance benefits be a currently insured individual, and the provisions of subparagraph (C) of such paragraph,” and inserting in lieu thereof “The provisions of subparagraph (C) of paragraph (1)”. (b) (1) Section 202(f)(1) of such Act is amended— (A) by striking out “and currently” in the matter preceding subparagraph (A),and (B) by striking out “, and she was a currently insured individual,” in subparagraph (D)(ii). (2) Section 202(f)(2) of such Act is amended by striking out “The requirement in paragraph (1) that the deceased fully insured individual also be a currently insured individual, and the provisions of subparagraph (D) of such paragraph,” and inserting in lieu thereof “The provisions of subparagraph (D) of paragraph (1)”. (c) In the case of any husband who would not be entitled to husband’s insurance benefits under section 202(c) of the Social Security Act or any widower who would not be entitled to widower’s insurance benefits under section 202(f) of such Act except for the enactment of this section, the requirement in section 202(c)(1)(C) or 202(f)(1)(D) of such Act relating to the time within which proof of support must be filed shall not apply if such proof of support is filed within two years after the month following the month in which this Act is enacted. (d) The amendments made by this section shall apply with respect to monthly benefits payable under title II of the Social Security Act for months after January 1968, but only on the basis of applications filed in or after the month in which this Act is enacted.
