Sec. 502. Authorization for the construction of family housing provided in this Act shall be subject, under such regulations as the Secretary of Defense may prescribe, to the following limitations on cost, which shall include shades, screens, ranges, refrigerators, and all other installed equipment and fixtures: (a) The average unit cost for each military department for all units of family housing constructed in the United States (other than Hawaii and Alaska) shall not exceed $24,000 including the cost of the family unit and the proportionate costs of land acquisition, site preparation, and installation of utilities. (b) No family housing unit in the area specified in subsection (a) shall be constructed at a total cost exceeding $42,000 including the cost of the family unit and the proportionate costs of land acquisition, site preparation, and installation of utilities. (c) When family housing units are constructed in areas other than that specified in subsection (a) the average cost of all such units shall not exceed $33,500 and in no event shall the cost of any unit exceed $42,000. The cost limitations of this subsection shall include the cost of the family unit and the proportionate costs of land acquisition, site preparation, and installation of utilities.
