Sec. 203. Section 608 of title 18, United States Code, is amended to read as follows: “§ 608. Limitations on contributions and expenditures “(a) (1) No candidate may make expenditures from his personal funds, or the personal funds of his immediate family, in connection with his campaign for nomination for election, or election, to Federal office in excess of— “(A) $50,000, in the case of a candidate for the office of President or Vice President; “(B) $35,000, in the case of a candidate for the office of Senator; or 86 Stat. 10 “(C) $25,000, in the case of a candidate for the office of Representative, or Delegate or Resident Commissioner to the Congress. “(2) For purposes of this subsection, ‘immediate family means a candidate’s spouse, and any child, parent, grandparent, brother, or sister of the candidate, and the spouses of such persons. “(b) No candidate or political committee shall knowingly accept any contribution or authorize any expenditure in violation of the provisions of this section. “(c) Violation of the provisions of this section is punishable by a fine not to exceed $1,000, imprisonment for not to exceed one year, or both.”.
