level of care requirements for skilled nursing home services Sec. 247. (a) Section 1814(a)(2)(C) of the Social Security Act is amended by striking out everything which appears before “(or services” and inserting in lieu thereof the following: “(C) in the case of post hospital extended care services, such services are or were required to be given because the individual needs or needed on a daily basis skilled nursing care (provided directly by or requiring the supervision of skilled nursing personnel) or other skilled rehabilitation services, which as a practical matter can only be provided in a skilled nursing facility on an inpatient basis, for any of the conditions with respect to which he was receiving inpatient hospital services”. (b) Section 1905 of the Social Security Act. as amended by section 212 of this Act, is further amended by adding at the end thereof the following new subsection: “(f) For purposes of this title, the term ‘skilled nursing facility services’ means services which are or were required to be given an individual who needs or needed on a daily basis skilled nursing care (provided directly by or requiring the supervision of skilled nursing personnel) or other skilled rehabilitation services which as a practical matter can only be provided in a skilled nursing facility on an inpatient basis.” (c) The amendments made by this section shall be effective with respect to services furnished after December 31, 1972.
