prosthetic lenses furnished by optometrists under supplementary medical insurance programSec. 264. (a) Section 1861 (r) of the Social Security Act (as amended by sections 211(c)(2) and 256(b) of this Act) is further amended (1) by striking out “or (3)” and inserting in lieu thereof “(3)”, and (2) by inserting before the period at the end thereof the following: “, or (4) a doctor of optometry who is legally authorized to practice optometry by the State in which he performs such function, but only with respect to establishing the necessity for prosthetic lenses”. (b) The amendment made by subsection (a) shall apply only with respect to services performed on or after the date of the enactment of this Act.
