SEC. 149. SECTION 8 ASSISTANCE FOR RESIDENTS OF RENTAL REHABILITATION PROJECTS. Section 8 of the United States Housing Act of 1937 (as amended by section 147 of this Act) is further amended by adding at the end the following new subsection: “(u) In the case of lower income families living in rental projects rehabilitated under section 17 of this Act or section 533 of the Housing Act of 1949 before rehabilitation— “(1) certificates or vouchers under this section shall be made for families who are required to move out of their units because of the physical rehabilitation activities or because of overcrowding; and “(2) at the discretion of each public housing agency or other agency administering the allocation of assistance, certificates or vouchers under this section may be made for families who would have to pay more than 30 percent of their adjusted income for rent after rehabilitation whether they choose to remain in, or to move from, the project.”.
