Office of the Secretary salaries and expenses For necessary expenses of the Office of the Secretary of Transportation, including not to exceed $27,000 for allocation within the Department for official reception and representation expenses as the Secretary may determine; including not to exceed $275,000 for allocation to the Office of Pipeline Safety for a study of the safety of natural gas pipeline distribution systems which shall consider such areas as the, use. of plastic pipes, the evaluation of the conditions of existing distribution systems, third party damages, the need for expanding present regulations on service lines, the effectiveness of “odors” given to natural gas, and the utilization of the system approach to pipeline safety, $24,475,000.
