special allowances Sec. 402. (a) Title IV of the Foreign Service Act of 1946 (22 U.S.C. 861–890) is amended by adding at the end thereof the following new part: “Part F— Additional Compensation “special allowances “Sec. 451. If he finds it to be in the best interests of the Service, the Secretary may, under such conditions as he may determine, pay special allowances, in addition to compensation otherwise authorized, to Foreign Service officers who are required because of the nature of their assignments to perform additional work on a regular basis in substantial excess of normal requirements.”. (b) The amendment made by this section shall take effect on October 1, 1978.
