United States Customs Service salaries and expenses For necessary expenses of the United States Customs Service, including purchase of four hundred and ninety-seven passenger motor vehicles for replacement only, including four hundred and eighty-seven for police-type use; acquisition (purchase of three), operation, and maintenance of aircraft; hire of passenger motor vehicles and aircraft; and awards of compensation to informers as authorized by the Act of August 13, 1954 (22 U.S.C. 401); $430,600,000, of which not to exceed $150,000 shall be available for payment for rental space in connection with preclearance operations; and of which not to exceed $600,000 for research shall remain available until expended.
