SEC. 303. STUDY REGARDING CLINICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGISTS FOR MEDICALLY UNDERSERVED AND RURAL COMMUNITIES. (a) In General.—With respect to the shortage of clinical laboratory technologists, the Secretary of Health and Human Services (in this section referred to as the “Secretary”) shall conduct a study for the purpose of— 106 STAT. 2084 (1) determining whether there are special or unique factors affecting the supply of clinical laboratory technologists in medically underserved and rural communities; and (2) assessing alternative routes for certification of the competence of individuals to serve as such technologists, with consideration of the role of entities providing such certifications. (b) Date Certain for Report.—Not later than October 1, 1993, the Secretary shall complete the study required in subsection (a) and submit to the Committee on Energy and Commerce of the House of Representatives, and to the Committee on Labor and Human Resources of the Senate, a report describing the findings made as result of the study.
