ADVANCED NURSE EDUCATION.
SEC. 203. ADVANCED NURSE EDUCATION. Section 821 of the Public Health Service Act (42 U.S.C. 2961) is amended to read as follows: “advanced nurse education “Sec. 821. (a) In General.—The Secretary may make grants to and enter into contracts with public and nonprofit private collegiate schools of nursing to meet the costs of projects that, in the case of programs described in subsection (b)— “(1) plan, develop, and operate new such programs; or “(2) significantly expand existing such programs. “(b) Authorized Programs.—The programs referred to in subsection (a) are programs leading to advanced degrees that prepare nurses to serve as nurse educators or public health nurses, or in other clinical nurse specialties determined by the Secretary to require advanced education. “(c) Funding.— “(1) Authorization of appropriations.—For the purpose of carrying out this section, there are authorized to be appropriated $12,000,000 for each of the fiscal years 1993 and 1994. “(2) Limitation.—Of the amounts appropriated under paragraph (1), the Secretary may not obligate more than 10 percent for providing grants or contracts under subsection (a) for programs leading to doctoral degrees.”.
