SEC. 2502. HOT DRY ROCK GEOTHERMAL ENERGY IN EASTERN UNITED STATES. The United States Geological Survey, in collaboration with the Secretary of Energy, shall convene a workshop of interested governmental and private parties to discuss the regional potential for hot dry rock geothermal energy in the Eastern United States. The purpose of the workshop shall be to review the status of recoverability of hot dry rock energy in the Eastern United States and to determine what geologic, technological, and economic obstacles need to be overcome to make the utilization of hot dry rock energy feasible. The workshop shall be convened within 6 months after enactment of this Act and the United States Geological Survey shall submit a report to Congress within 6 months after the workshop containing a summary of the findings and conclusions of the workshop.
