SEC. 204. TECHNICAL PIPELINE SAFETY STANDARDS COMMITTEE. Section 204 of the Hazardous Liquid Pipeline Safety Act of 1979 (49 U.S.C. App. 2003) is amended— (1) in subsection (a)(3) by striking the period and inserting “, including 2 members who have education, background, or106 STAT. 3302 experience in environmental protection or public safety. At least 1 of the members selected under this paragraph shall have no financial interests in the pipeline, petroleum, or natural gas industries”; and (2) in subsection (b) by inserting after the sixth sentence the following new sentence: “The Committee, if requested by the Secretary, shall make recommendations to the Secretary concerning policy development.”.
