SEC. 310. REND LAKE, ILLINOIS. (a) Study.— The Secretary shall conduct a study on whether or not to relieve the State of Illinois of the requirement to make annual payments for unused water supply storage in Rend Lake on the Big Muddy River in Illinois. (b) Report.— The Secretary shall transmit to Congress a report on the results of the study conducted under subsection (a), together with recommendations for any conditions which the Secretary considers to be appropriate if the State of Illinois is to be relieved of the requirement to make the annual payments referred to in subsection (a). (c) Interim Payments.— Until 6 months after the date on which the Secretary transmits to Congress the report under subsection (b), the State of Illinois shall not be required to make any payments under its contract with the United States for use of storage space for water supply in Rend Lake on the Big Muddy River in Illinois.
