SEC. 520. LIMITED EXCEPTION FOR ALASKA SCOUT OFFICERS FROM BACCALAUREATE DEGREE REQUIREMENT FOR APPOINTMENT AS OFFICER IN NATIONAL GUARD ABOVE FIRST LIEUTENANT. (a) In General.— Subsection (b) of section 596 of title 10, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new paragraph: “(5) Recognition in the grade of captain or major in the Alaska Army National Guard of a person who resides permanently at a location in Alaska that is more than 50 miles from each of the cities of Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau, Alaska, by paved road and who is serving in a Scout unit or a Scout supporting unit.”. (b) Conforming Stylistic Amendments.— Such subsection is further amended by striking out “an individual” in paragraphs (2) and (3) and inserting in lieu thereof “a person”.
